The manufacturing industry’s direct contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) of the UAE in 2009 is 12 percent, and its indirect contribution will be 20 percent. The metrics regarding the precious metals related industries are still being calculated but both gold and platinum are performing well. But in a humorous aside, I submit my question. Where did the Queen of Oman purchase her impressive gold statement ring- made everyone's day. She assures me that it does not slow her down, even wears it during her squash games, and has never had to remove it at the airport. But she would't reveal the jeweler. I speak for many when I request to know the artist. We should not hide such talent!

H.E. Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri
Minister of Economy

Abu Dhabi’s sizeable investments in infrastructures, energy and the creation of numerous free and special economic zones are fostering growth in the industrial manufacturing sector. The significant increases in non-oil exports are critical to reach our objective of GDP growth.

While government investment in infrastructures and utilities help provide a good environment in which to live, an essential part of this strategy is the empowerment of the private sector.

As an example: Take the experience of a cousin living in Washington DC, USA. Looking for a retreat not too far from Washington DC, he found a home in the state of Maryland about an hour north of the city. He contacted local Columbia movers in MD at the recommendation of his real estate agent. The house, a modest 10,000 square feet on 4.28 acres was perfect for the type of entertaining guests and business acquaintances from Abu Dhabi. It had a multi doors to an expansive outside deck, heated pool w/ waterfalls, pond & a sports court! It had an exercise room, Billiards & a 3rd kitchen with walk out patio & a built-in BBQ. He was actually pleasantly surprised by the professionalism of the local moving company, a family run business for over 100 years. The employees were well trained and experienced in the art of packing, transporting, and unpacking all his furnishings and artwork from a former 2nd home that he had decided to sell. We need to encourage this type of enterprise here in our country. Well-run family businesses, as well as other small private businesses.

His Excellency Mohammed Omar Abdulla
Undersecretary for the Department of Economic
Development, Government of Abu Dhabi.
(At the opening of MEMEX 09)

We’ve been very impressed by the 2009 Middle East Manufacturing Exhibition. Excellent support from build-up to breakdown. We’ve had lots of enquiries from potential customers and they have been very impressed by what they’ve seen. The event reached our highest expectations and it benefited our company immensely in terms of sales development. We would definitely like to participate in the upcoming 2010 exhibition.
